TopoFetch

Unreal Engine 5.8 plugin

Turn any place on Earth into a game-ready Unreal Engine landscape.

Real-world heightmaps — fully inside Unreal Engine. Pick a location, draw a square, hit ⛰ Import. TopoFetch downloads real elevation data, enhances it, and builds the complete Landscape actor in your level: exact 1:1 scale, real satellite imagery, roads, rivers, buildings. No values to copy, nothing to configure.

Free tier: satellite texture up to 1K · Windows · UE 5.8 prebuilt · requires a free OpenTopography API key

How it works

Three steps. No copy-pasting coordinates, no manual import.

1

Pick a place

Search or pan the satellite map anywhere on Earth, right inside the TopoFetch tab.

2

Draw a square

Drag an exact square over the area. Move it, resize from any corner — middle-mouse always pans.

3

Hit ⛰ Import

The Landscape actor appears in your level — scaled, textured, and ready to fly through.

Everything the pipeline builds for you

v2.1 — built and assigned automatically, undo-able, works on World Partition maps.

One-click landscape

Heightmap, exact 1:1 scale (X/Y/Z), sea level at world Z=0, recommended component layout, material assigned automatically.

Satellite texture

Real satellite imagery reprojected to map exactly 1:1 onto the landscape. Auto-created material instance per import. Up to 8K on Pro.

World Capture

First import becomes your project's geo-anchor. Every later import lands at its true real-world offset automatically — expand the world any day.

Real-scale buildings

Every OpenStreetMap building as a real-scale volume — real footprint and height, round→cylinder, dome→sphere, else box. Organized in its own outliner folder.

Terrain quality

Copernicus GLO-30/90, SRTM, NASADEM, ALOS, USGS 3DEP sources. Hydraulic-erosion detail, flattened roads, sculpted rivers & lakes, real ocean bathymetry.

Modern dark workflow

Unreal-editor style UI, hover tooltips, collapsible sections, per-project import history, and a Cancel button that aborts cleanly.

Unique to TopoFetch

Build a whole world, one tile at a time.

Your first import lands at your level's center and becomes the project's geo-anchor. Select the neighbouring area any day after and hit Import — TopoFetch places it automatically at its true real-world offset. No manual alignment, no drift. Keep going until the whole region is captured, at real scale, from real data.

FAQ

Do I need to pay for elevation or map data?

No. All data sources used are free and public; you only need your own free OpenTopography API key.

What's the difference between Free and Pro?

Free caps the satellite texture at 1K resolution. Pro (via Fab.com, $49) unlocks up to 8K. Every terrain, building, and World Capture feature is identical in both.

Does it work on World Partition maps?

Yes — the landscape is automatically split into streaming proxies. Large imports (8K) can take a few minutes at that step.

Can I still get the raw heightmap PNG instead of an auto-built landscape?

Yes — untick "Build the landscape automatically" in the Output section and TopoFetch produces the PNG + report exactly as before.

Which engine versions are supported?

UE 5.0+. Prebuilt binaries ship for 5.8; other versions compile once, automatically, the first time you open the project.

About

TopoFetch is developed by Hamed Tybi. It grew out of a simple frustration: turning real-world terrain into a usable Unreal Engine landscape used to mean juggling GIS tools, manual reprojection, and copy-pasted scale values. TopoFetch collapses that into one click, inside the editor you already have open.
